Web site example: www.myfamilytreeresearch.co.uk
Jenny Robinson, who runs myfamilytreeresearch.co.uk, already had a web presence under the domain of myfamilyhistoryresearch.co.uk when they came to Mysys.
She was unhappy with her current web site and wanted a revamp the design, a logo and a new domain name. After a little research into the domain name market Mysys recommended myfamilytreeresearch.co.uk and this was registered by Mysys on Jenny's behalf.
Logo

After going through some initial design concepts and ideas, Mysys submitted the final logo concept around a week after the new domain name was registered and Jenny was pleased with the result and signed it off after the first submission.
We decided to keep the green theme and run it through the site, we felt this was in keeping with the brand and sat well with the logo. We felt the initial home page should give the visitor a taster of what her business offered so we decided the best layout would be four clear areas:
Header Area
The header area is always the first part of the site that visitors will see. We decided to use a JQuery image and text slider that moved an image with text through 4 phases of information. This gave visitors a brief example of what myfamilytreeresearch.co.uk could do, along with a testimonial.
Main Content Area
We split the main content area up into three key areas:
Area 1. Brief welcome and info section
Area 2. Services section.
Area 3. Contact and testimonial section
In doing this it becomes easier for the user to quickly establish the key areas of the site and therefore identify the purpose which increases usability. We want to make the experience of the user as pleasant as possible so we try not to bombard them with too much information. Our goal was to lead the visitor into the content of the site and allow them to navigate to the relevant page quite quickly.
Payment Section
Taking payment on-line is now far more prevelant than it was some years ago. Jenny wanted to be able to invoice customers and allow them to go to the site, fill in the on-line form, and make a payment. This was achieved by using the PayPal system which Jenny already had an account with.
She can now invoice clients and ask them to pay on-line through the site. Payment is then transfered through a secure merchant mechanism into her business account.
Services used and cost
1. Logo devlopment: £250
2. Site build, design, e-commerce plug-in: £500
2. Hosting, email: £20 pm
My family Tree Research
My Family Tree Research commissioned Mysys to undertake a site re-design incorporating branding and logo design.
They also wanted clients to be able to make payments on-line for their services so we incorporated a payment option on the site based on services used.
